Dermatitis is a general term referring to skin inflammation. As such, there are several types of skin inflammation. The common trait amongst these symptoms are swollen skin that is itchy and can be red or very red in color. See the dermatitis pictures for examples.
Is Dermatitis Contagious?
Dermatitis is not contagious. If you or your friends have it, don’t worry, it cannot be spread by casual contact. The other thing to know is that it is not life threatening even though some cases may be very ugly to look at. Some of the dermatitis pictures show some severe cases.
Different Kinds Dermititis

- Contact dermatitis is used to refer to a rash that comes about due to contact with allergy-producing irritants.
- Neuro-dermatitis is itchy skin that usually stays in one particular area.
- Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin inflammation of the scalp. This is the cause of dandruff for some people.
- Statis dermatitis is a collection of fluid under the skin that is on one’s legs.
- Perioral dermatitis is a rash that occurs around one’s mouth. They may appear bumpy.
- Atopic dermatitis is the most commmon type. This is also known as eczema. This form of dermatitis is chronic, itchy and very irritating. Eczema comes and goes without warning.

As bothersome as these skin inflammations are, they are not life threatening. This is a good thing because dermatitis cannot be cured. Rather, sufferers can only seek dermatitis treatment.
